Rules for Writing a Research Paper

Goal

You should apply the instruments of institutional theory to the analysis of specific economic situations.

General rules

·      You should choose a partner for your work. Together in a group of three, you should choose one of the topics from the list (see on the website: https://lia.hse.ru/en/inst). You must confirm your choice with a course supervisor by sending a letter with your names and the chosen topic to courseonie@gmail.com. It is strongly advised not to leave this for the last day as at this point most topics might be assigned to other groups who were the first to take it. Deadline for this phase is October the 29^th. You can be sure you signed up only after you receive an answer to your letter.

·      Next you will have to choose a narrow topic within the wide assigned to you. Be ready to cover it completely, and think very carefully about it, because the wider it is, the harder it is going to be to cover it. If you do not come up with a narrow topic and go for a general one, you will get a lower mark.

·      After you decide on your topic, you need to search for at least 3 academic articles that were published in English and are relevant to your research. It is not allowed to pick articles that have a Russian translation or variant.

·      On the lecture and seminars of the 6^th of November there will be held a discussion on your choices of academic articles for references. Each group is to prepare a presentation disclosing goals of research, naming articles for a literature review, commenting on what each article is about, explaining why it is relevant for the particular work the group makes, disclosing what exact information given in the articles and in what way the group is going to use in their work. No later than on the 5^th of November (09.00) you must send a poster-presentation with selected articles to courseonie@gmail.com.

·      The finished work is to be handed in before 8^th of December.
